Play Hard: A newsletter about games
At a certain point during the pandemic, I came to a realization about myself: left with voids of time and energy to fill, I always seek out a game. I mean that in the broadest possible terms. Over the last year and a half, and really for my entire life, I’ve gravitated to sports, fantasy sports, board games, card games, video games, drinking games. I’m addicted to competing and am always seeking out new ways of facing off against other people or myself.
The idea behind this newsletter is to write stories about games that I play, watch or obsess over, and the way games shape the world. I’m hoping to introduce you to games you’ve never heard of, and get you to think in different ways about games you might have played a hundred times before. I promise not every post will use the word “games” this many times.
I’ll start with a post soon about a sport that may have been lingering on the periphery of your consciousness since the 80s, but which has exploded during the pandemic and roped in thousands of new die-hards, including me.
Thanks for reading. Let’s play.
In the meantime, tell your friends!
